AIM is neither a mental health service nor learning disability service. We are commissioned by NHS Sunderland Clinical Commissioning Group to provide low level preventative support. We are a solution-focused service that works with individuals and families to enable them to live as independently as possible, with the knowledge that if they need any further support, it is available. We work with individuals and families helping them to resolve any issues or problems they have. We endeavour to stop things from becoming worse and reaching crisis point. AIM supports individuals in many different ways:<ul><li>Providing a link to other services </li><li>Making and attending appointments </li><li>Support during benefit assessments </li><li>Offering personal profiling for individuals</li><li>Self-awareness and understanding sessions</li><li>Supporting housing or accommodation issues</li></ul>We also offer an adult’s autism outreach service to individuals on the autistic spectrum who are socially isolated and are unable to attend drop-in sessions, but who are in need of support.  Please visit our website for more details.

Dance City’s Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) is part of the Department for Education’s Music and Dance Scheme offering Contemporary and Street Dance training to young people across the North East, irrespective of financial or personal circumstances. The CAT Street Dance programme is based in Sunderland. Applicants need to be aged 10 – 16 to apply for one of our programmes and once registered as a student, can continue training up to age 18.

Love, Amelia is a charitable organisation based in Hendon, Sunderland. We provide practical support to children aged from birth to 16 years, living across Tyne &amp; Wear and County Durham who are experiencing poverty and hardship. We believe that every child deserves the best start and that by reusing the items children have outgrown, we can maintain a circular economy to support those who need it most. Our mission is to help relieve poverty and hardship in babies, children and those who care for them by providing essential items, equipment and support to partner organisations and those in need.  We want to ensure every child has the opportunity to be happy, safe and to thrive.We work on a referral basis meaning we do not accept self referrals, or requests from families or friends. Professionals supporting families in an official capacity can make a referral on their behalf.

Media Savvy CIC was established in 2010 and is based in Sunderland City-Centre. Our aim to serve some of the 'hardest-to-reach' groups in our community, including those with poor physical / mental health, ex-offenders, learning disabilities and also the long-term unemployed. We do this via a range of informal and accredited courses and workshops, often utilising a 'learning by stealth' approach in order to most effectively reach individuals. Our provision incorporates transferable softer life skills alongside core employability skills, with the view to help individuals back into meaningful activities, such as volunteering, further education / training or formal employment / self-employment.

All learners must be aged 19 or over on the31 August 2022. We ask all learners for eligibility evidence on enrolment. This might include proof of address, payslips, and photographic ID. English and maths courses are free for learners who do not hold a GCSE grade C or above. If you are unemployed and in receipt of state benefit or are working and earn less than £18,525, then you are likely to be entitled to a free course (eligibility requirements apply). When you enrol you will need your personal details (including address, date of birth, telephone number, national insurance number and information about any benefits you receive and information on previous learning you have completed). Together for Children's SEND Team carries out the statutory functions on behalf of the Local Authority in relation to Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessments and Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).The team:<ul><li>delivers the Council's statutory responsibilities for SEND in relation to the legislation, regulations, statutory and non-statutory guidance contained in the Children and Families Act 2014, The Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014, the Special Educational Needs (Personal Budgets) Regulations 2014 and Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice: 0 - 25 years. </li><li>co-ordinates, administers and manages the statutory EHC needs assessment of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)</li><li>co-ordinate and share summative assessment</li><li>produce EHCPs arranging provision and placement for children &amp; young people, with appropriate resources, in line with their EHCPs</li><li>co-ordinate the annual review process of EHCPs across all educational settings, including schools and colleges</li><li>manage and facilitate the process of parental appeals to the First-tier Tribunal (SEND) representing the Local Authority at appeal hearings</li><li>provides information, advice and guidance to parents, carers and school and other key partners on the statutory processes regarding EHCPs, annual reviews and other matters relating to SEND in line with the SEND Code of Practice: 0 - 25 and other legislation and regulations regarding SEND</li></ul>Criteria for access The eligibility criteria to be considered for an EHC (Education, Health and Care) needs assessment and be considered for an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) refers to Section 36(8) of the Education Act 1996 'The Local authority must secure an EHC assessment for a child or young person if, after having regard to any views expressed and evidence submitted under subsection (7), the authority is of the opinion that:<ul><li>the child or young person has or may have special educational needs</li><li>it may be necessary for special educational provision to be made for the child or young person in accordance with an EHC plan'  </li></ul>A referral is usually made by the school or other setting requesting that the Local Authority consider whether or not to carry out an EHC needs assessment for your child.A referral can also be made by a parent requesting the Local Authority to consider whether or not to carry out an EHC needs assessment for your child. A referral may be made by a young person over the age of 16 but under the age of 25.In addition, anyone else can bring a child or young person who has (or may have) SEN to the attention of the Local Authority, particularly where they think an EHC needs assessment may be necessary.  This could include, for example, foster carers, health and social care professionals, early years practitioners, youth offending teams or probation services, those responsible for education in custody, school or college staff or a family friend. When the Local Authority considers whether or not an EHC needs assessment is necessary the decision is made in line with the following principle legislation, regulations and guidance:Section 36 of the Children and Families Act 2014; and regulations 3, 4 and 5 of the SEND Regulations 2014 and Including All Children and Young People: Guidance for Implementing the SEND Code of Practice: 0 - 25, 2014 Further information regarding EHC needs assessment and EHCPs can be found in the Special Educational Needs &amp; Disability Code of Practice: 0 - 25 years. Universal services Advice regarding the SEND process is available to all schools, colleges, parents and young people from the SEND Team.  The service can also be contacted by email. Specialist services The service is for those children and young people who are identified as having SEND.  Therefore, the Local Authority must conduct an assessment of EHC needs when it considers that it may be necessary for special Educational Provision to be made for the child or young person in accordance with an EHC Plan.

We provide refuge, advice and support to women and children suffering domestic violence. 24hr helpline for women and children experiencing domestic violence.

Wearside Women in Need

We offer accommodation, support and education to the homeless aged 16 to 35 in a residential project and in dispersed outreach properties across the City.  There is also an on-site training and computer suite and an offer of a Job Club, Employability and Work Ready courses, issue based drop-in sessions, including sexual health sessions, peer education etc and also a Volunteer Project.  We also facilitate a multi-agency drug and alcohol clinic, undertake family mediation and various accredited and unaccredited educational courses at all levels.
