The Royal Air Force Air Cadets are sponsored by the Royal Air Force and give you hands-on experience of activities and courses that will challenge and develop your skills to help you succeed in any walk of life. The aims of the Royal Air Force Cadets are to;<ul><li>promote and encourage a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force among young people;</li><li>provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life;</li><li>encourage the spirit of adventure; and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship.</li></ul>607 (Wearmouth) Squadron is based in Seaburn, Sunderland and is one of 35 Air Cadet Squadrons in Durham/Northumberland Wing which covers most of the North East of England. As a unit we meet at our headquarters, in Seaburn, on a Tuesday and Friday evenings each week, we also offer a range of weekend trips and activities, aswell as week long residential camps around the UK and abroad. Air cadet members are aged between 12 and 20 years old. You can join us once you start Year 8 at school, however the maximum age for entry is 17 years old. We usually recruit in the spring and the autumn but you can request to join at anytime.

Hope 4 Kidz was established in May 2007 to give children and young people a sense of hope for their future. They work tirelessly to support the well-being of youngsters who require various degrees of extra care, whether they are suffering from a physical or mental disability, living with a serious or prolonged illness, or need respite from poverty or abuse. They believe that by offering support, promoting education and helping those who suffer to develop important life skills, they can give them hope and courage to look to the future and not be afraid. Hope 4 Kidz supports children with special needs with equipment, education, respite and the relief of poverty. Criteria for accessService is open to any children with a disability or children experiencing extreme circumstances.

Monkwearmouth Academy

Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity supports seriously ill children and their families in the family home and local community. Families who have a child or young person up to the age of 18 with a life threatening or terminal condition (for example cancer, some neurological conditions, babies in neonatal intensive care) are eligible and referrals can come from any source. We enable families to manage everyday life while caring for a sick child and to make the most of time together; providing expert, practical and emotional support via a Family Support Worker. Families have complete choice about the type of support they receive, wherever and whenever they need it. Rainbow Trust’s support can include short breaks from caring, family activity days, drop-in groups, support with hospital visits, including transport to and from appointments, support for siblings and bereavement support. Services are tailored to the individual needs of each family member, including the sick child, parents, siblings, grandparents and extended family. Support includes:<ul><li>Providing short breaks for the sick child and siblings, which may include drop-in groups, family days, trips out or fun activities at home</li><li>Spending time with the ill child at hospital or home</li><li>Accompanying and supporting parents and their child during clinic and hospital visits; providing transport to hospital</li><li>Helping maintain normality in the home by working with and caring for siblings, to ensure usual activities are continued</li><li>Siblings may be supported through one-to-one sessions, help getting to school or with homework, regular sibling groups and school holiday events and activities</li><li>Providing practical support with household chores to help families manage day to day life</li><li>Providing emotional support</li><li>Providing end-of-life care and bereavement support.</li></ul> Support is generally available from Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm, frequency and duration depending on family choice and needs. Rainbow Trust operates a 24-hour service for families in crisis, which includes a 24-hour dedicated on call number, and the possibility of extended hours of family support during weekdays and weekends.
