The Military Preparation College (MPC) is a unique training college that helps 16-19 year olds develop their fitness, vocational qualifications, and employability skills to help prepare for employment, including rewarding careers in the British Armed Forces. Each Military Preparation College forms part of a network of over 20 colleges across England and Wales. The unique active learning curriculum inspires students to achieve their personal best with 50% of every day spent learning outdoors or taking part in physical training. The MPC curriculum has been designed to develop our students’ physical fitness, essential skills and self-confidence. The college operates a ‘roll on, roll off’ joining process with no set deadline by which to apply, allowing new recruits to join on a weekly basis.

Media Savvy CIC was established in 2010 and is based in Sunderland City-Centre. Our aim to serve some of the 'hardest-to-reach' groups in our community, including those with poor physical / mental health, ex-offenders, learning disabilities and also the long-term unemployed. We do this via a range of informal and accredited courses and workshops, often utilising a 'learning by stealth' approach in order to most effectively reach individuals. Our provision incorporates transferable softer life skills alongside core employability skills, with the view to help individuals back into meaningful activities, such as volunteering, further education / training or formal employment / self-employment.

Get the skills you need to succeed in the engineering &amp; manufacturing industry.We provide accredited level 2 short 2 week courses in lean organisation management, industrial environmental awareness, warehouse &amp; storage and forklift truck operations and licence from our Spire Road campus in Glover, Washington. Courses are available to learners over 19 years of age who are unemployed or on a low salary free of charge using the adult education budget.

The National Apprenticeship (NAS) supports, funds and co-ordinates the delivery of Apprenticeships throughout England.  NAS are responsible for increasing the number of Apprenticeship opportunities and providing a dedicated, responsive service for both employers and learners.  This includes simplifying the process of recruiting an apprentice through Apprenticeship vacancies. This is an online system where employers can advertise their apprenticeship job vacancies and potential apprentices can apply. Make-Up Artistry OverviewThe VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Make-Up Artistry will enable you to work as a professional make-up artist. You will gain skills and knowledge in instructing clients on make-up application, media make-up including applying small ready-made prosthetic pieces, fashion and photographic make-up, camouflage make-up, face and body art. You will also have the opportunity to gain skills in airbrush make-up, styling and fitting head and facial postiche (wigs and hairpieces) or Mendhi skin decoration. Course FundingYou can apply for an advanced learner loan to help with the costs of a course at a college or training provider in England. Our induction officer will be there to help and support you when you apply on your enrolment. Loan eligibility does not depend on your income and there are no credit checks. You do not need to pay anything towards this course before you begin earning over the threshold amount. You do not need to start repaying your loan until your income is over a certain amount the ‘threshold’ amount which in this instance is £27,295 per annum. You’ll be charged interest from the day you get the first payment. You can apply for up to 4 loans and you can get more than one at the same time. You can apply for another loan to take the same level of a course, for example the same level qualification in Massage Therapy if you’ve already had a loan for the same level in Nail Technology.You cannot apply until you get a ‘learning and funding information letter’ from your college or training provider. What we doWe are a resource for the community, adopting a community development model to meet community needs. PAG is situated in one of the most deprived areas of Sunderland and currently operates a variety of projects  and prides itself on offering a wide and diverse range of recreational and educational opportunities for the WHOLE Community. We provide or facilitate courses for people of working age to enhance their employability and for everyone for social or recreational purposes.  These courses can be arranged by PAG or by external sources and are quite often free of charge to the service user.  The courses can be accredited or non-accredited and can vary in length from a couple of hours to as long as a few weeks. Project Choice aims to empower Interns and build their confidence as individuals in the workplace, while also offering life experience beyond their home and school environments. What is the engagement process?Project Choice holds formal awareness sessions at schools and other local authority venues but we are also happy to come and speak with interested young people and parents and/or carers in other settings, eg. at home or school on a one-to-one basis. The Internship is for 16-24 year olds with learning difficulties, disabilities and/or Autism. There are no academic requirements to join the Internship, however individuals will need to have an aspiration to work and a current Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) in place. Project Choice will need to be named in the EHCP, so parents and/or carers will need to be in discussion with the local commissioning authority for this to be arranged. What is the assessment process?Potential interns will be invited to a fun day for us to meet the young person and assess whether Project Choice can meet their needs. How long is the Internship?The Internship comprises up to three placements, lasting 10-12 weeks each, throughout the academic year. Students who successfully complete their Internship will leave the College with an employability qualification accredited by NCFE. And where appropriate, a math and English qualification at a level higher than previously achieved. What support is provided?Interns are supported by a Workplace Mentor, Project Coordinator and a Project Manager. Project Choice

Provides opportunities for young people aged 15-25 years to participate in an international volunteering experience, carrying out voluntary work in schools and with community groups in Southern Gambia.

Project Gambia

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) funds a number of courses through nine residential colleges throughout England to help unemployed disabled adults obtain a job or become self employed. This takes place in accessible college buildings and covers areas such as administration, catering, retail, horticulture, leisure etc. The nearest college is Finchale College. Criteria for access Eligibility criteria apply for residential training.  Applicants must be UK residents with a disability, aged 18 or over and unemployed.Specialist services Residential Training for Adults is a specialist service. Residential Training for Disabled Adults (DWP)

Work Choice is a voluntary employment programme that provides support to disabled people facing barriers to getting and keeping a job. The type of support offered is different for everyone but can include training and developing your skills, building self confidence and interview coaching. Criteria for access Help from work choice is available for people over 16 years of age and have left school or college and are disabled.  Work Choice is accessible through contacting a Disability Employment Adviser (DEA) Universal service - Work Choice is a universal service provided by the Department for Work and Pensions but eligibility criteria apply.

Work Choice (DWP)

We offer accommodation, support and education to the homeless aged 16 to 35 in a residential project and in dispersed outreach properties across the City.  There is also an on-site training and computer suite and an offer of a Job Club, Employability and Work Ready courses, issue based drop-in sessions, including sexual health sessions, peer education etc and also a Volunteer Project.  We also facilitate a multi-agency drug and alcohol clinic, undertake family mediation and various accredited and unaccredited educational courses at all levels. Criteria for access Anyone aged over the age of 16, homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless and able to claim Housing Benefit Allowance. Please visit our website for more details.
