EPEC – Empowering Parents , Empowering Communities – offers peer led parent programmes to other parents in the community .

Being a parent isn’t easy and sometimes it can be difficult to seek advice but “Being A Parent” is an 8 week parenting course delivered by trained Parent Group Leaders from your local community .Being A Parent is aimed at parents/carers of children aged 2- 12 years of age.


Discuss with other parents topics such as “the importance of taking care of yourself as a parent” , “being a good enough parent” ,”feelings” ,”managing stress” and “listening skills” as well as strategies to encourage your child (play , descriptive praise) and also discipline strategies to manage behaviour .


Parent group Leaders can also deliver “Baby & Us” an 8 week course for parents/carers and their babies. This course focuses on parent baby relationship in this first year of babies life. The strategies discussed include “processing giving birth experience”, “importance of taking care of yourself as a parent”, “connecting with our baby “, “recognising their cues”, “communicating with our babies both verbally and non -verbally”, “communicating in an assertive way with other adults around us” “managing stress” as well as “safety” and “routines” .


If you enjoy the course or have previously completed parent courses and think you would like to help other parents we have a 10 week Parent Group Leader training course – which will equip you with skills and knowledge of the strategies to support delivery of a Being A Parent course .
