Help support your child’s reading, language development and learning skills by joining the library.


It’s FREE to join and you can use your library card at all 16 of our libraries.


We have some fantastic books available for children to borrow, including eBooks and e-Audiobooks, and there are also computers to use and a wide range of fun activities on offer throughout the year.


Children can borrow up to 10 books for 3 weeks and up to 6 e-audiobooks and 6 e-books using the BorrowBox service. There are no charges on late or damaged books but please encourage your children to look after their books and return them when they have read them. We are also a fine free service so, don’t worry about overdue books that might be hiding under the bed.


Borrowbox

Did you know that your library card gives you FREE access to thousands of ebooks, eaudiobooks, emagazines and enewspapers all through the Borrowbox app?

All you have to do is download the app and log in using your library card and 4 digit pin number.

There’s something for everyone on Borrowbox and with their in-built accessibility tools, children can tailor the books to suit their reading preferences.


Bookstart Gifts

Has your baby received their free book pack?

Get started sharing stories and rhymes! If your child is aged 4 – 12 months and has not received their pack from your health visitor, you can pick one up from any Salford library.


The Storynook at Winton Library

Bringing stories to life through play.

The Story Nook offers an alternative way for children and families to enjoy books and reading. Situated within Winton Library, the Story Nook contains a variety of self-led activities and resources, perfect for families to share. It is accessible to all and very different to traditional reading spaces.

Sunflower Library at Winton Library

The Sunflower library is a collection of books and reading resources for children will additional reading needs. Situated at Winton Library, this collection of books includes; giant print and braille books, large print books, books and cd sets, BSL books, sensory bag books, and more.


Library Corners

Discover our Library Corners at the following venues:

  • Irlam and Cadishead Leisure Centre

  • Ordsall Hall

  • The Den, Walkden (dedicated pop-up library for youth club users aged 8-12 years)

  • Pavilion Park Café, Parr Fold Park, Walkden

Visitors to these sites can discover a wide range of library books, such as picture books and comic books for children and the latest popular fiction for adults. Parents can share stories with their children and relax and unwind with a book themselves.


Reading Well For Children & Young Adults

Our libraries have a tailor made selection of books, chosen by health professionals, for adults, young adult, and children supporting your mental health and wellbeing in stories that are relatable and factual, providing support to better understand your feelings.
