Early Language, Communication and Learning

mother reading to baby

90% of your child’s brain growth happens before the age of 5. Right from the start, all those little moments you spend with your bump, baby and child are building their brain. Every smile, cuddle, chat and game make a huge difference, helping them learn to communicate, develop confidence and make friends.

In Salford our Health Visitors, Family Hub practitioners and Early Years Practitioners are able to support you with early advice around communication and language development. They also use the WellComm toolkit to help give you top tips and ideas tailored for your child. Family Hubs have groups designed to help you support your child’s early language, communication and learning including ‘Baby Social’ open to all (sessions can be found in the events section), ‘Stay, Play and Learn’* and ‘Talking Tots’*.

*Our skilled Family Hub Practitioners and Communication Development Workers lead these groups and will get in touch with you to invite you along.

The local libraries have Story Time sessions where you and your baby can enjoy sharing songs and stories.

Our Communication Development Workers and Speech and Language Therapists can also provide more help when it is needed.
