Early help for families

Early help services are delivered to you by the Salford Family Partnership which is how we offer early help for children, young people and families in Salford.

Some of our services are available to everyone which can be accessed in our Family Hubs across the city. We also work together with partners to identify children and families who need more specialised help, support or guidance at the earliest possible opportunity. Salford Family Partnership enables families’ to identify their own strengths and achieve positive outcomes for themselves.

Some of our services we have available to families include:

Relational Based Practice

The Family Partnership Model is the evidence based approach we use to support children, young people and their families in the Salford Family Partnership Service.

The Family Partnership Model (FPM) is an innovative approach based upon a clear model of the helping process that demonstrates how specific helper qualities and skills, when used in partnership, enable parents and families to overcome their difficulties, build strengths and resilience and fulfil their goals more effectively.

Early Help Assessment using the helping process

An Early Help Assessment (EHA) is completed to explore and gain an understanding of what is going on for a family. It highlights a family’s strengths and needs and what support they want and they could benefit from.

A clear action plan is made, services are coordinated and the EHA is regularly reviewed until the family achieve their goals. All members of the family can be on an EHA and it is important that everyone can have their voices heard.

The Early Help Team use the Family Partnership Model to work with families through the Helping Process, focussing on their priorities. Our aim is to help families achieve long-term positive outcomes.

Team Around the Family (TAF) is a model of working to enable an integrated, whole family approach to delivering support to meet the needs of families.

The TAF will follow the principles of the Salford Partnership Model, using a strengths based approach to communicate and engage with families putting them at the centre of the process.

The TAF will include all relevant practitioners and agencies based on the strengths and needs of the family, who will work together to deliver a coordinated package of support developed with the family to build on their strengths and address needs identified.

The TAF will be led by a lead worker who will co-ordinate the delivery of actions agreed to ensure that the family get appropriate interventions when needed, which are well planned, regularly reviewed and effectively delivered.

Early Years

The Early Help team want to help every child in Salford have the best start in life in order to reach their full potential.

Salford Family Partnership embeds a universal 8 stage assessment model in partnership with health services to ensure children are routinely seen and that effective early intervention is identified at key points in a child’s early years to support child development and improve school readiness.

Parenting

Parenting is a key component of Salford Family Partnership due to the enduring impact it can have on a child’s development. Research around evidence based parenting programmes shows that parents who take part become more competent and comfortable in their parenting role, have strengthened relationships with their children, and their overall family wellbeing increases.

Parents develop skills to enhance their child's social, emotional and academic competency, and learn strategies to deal with misbehaviour in consistent, non-punitive ways.

Team Around A School

The aim of Team Around A School is to work collaboratively and creatively with schools, colleges, other local authorities, other agencies, the voluntary sector and other groups to design, implement and coordinate interventions for vulnerable children and young people.

The schools co-ordinators will support in increasing school confidence and knowledge to direct families to use support from their own extended family and community, prior to requests for support from agencies.
