About this service

Sunderland Music Hub delivers, supports and champions music-making activity across the city. We believe in the potential of music to change lives. We aim to unlock potential and ensure every child and young person in Sunderland, regardless of their circumstance, has the opportunity to: make music; explore and develop a love for music; progress musically; and use music as a tool to progress personally and socially.

We work with schools to fulfil the National Plan for Music Education, ensuring high-quality music education is available to every child and young person across the city.

To discuss music provision in schools, contact School Music Education Officer, Hannah Taylor: 07887339423

We deliver and support a broad and diverse out-of-school music offer for any child and young person who is interested in developing their music further.

For more information on the city’s out-of-school music offering please visit: Make Music | Sunderland Music Hub

Alongside a city-wide offer, we target areas and demographics of young people who we know are least likely to have access to music-making activity to level the playing field and ensure all young musicians have the opportunity to thrive.

To discuss our targeted work and/or the city’s out-of-school music offering, contact Musical Inclusion Officer, Liam Huitson: 07810856893

Music Education Hubs were set up in 2012 in response to the government's National Plan for Music Education. Music Education Hubs aren't organisations in their own right. Rather, each Music Education Hub is a group of organisations and local authorities, schools, cultural organisations, community or voluntary-sector organisations – that work together to provide a joined-up music education offer across an area. Each Music Education Hub has a lead organisation which takes responsibility for funding and governance of the Hub and a board or advisory group which decides the strategy and plan. Hubs receive funding from Department for Education which is managed by Arts Council England.

More information about Music Education Hubs can be found on the Arts Council website.
