We welcome all children and will work with parents and professionals to try to meet individual children's needs.
We have experienced staff who are familiar with supporting children with a range of needs from tube fed babies, ADHD, autism, visual impairment and hearing loss. Staff are trained in Makaton and First steps.
At Little Angels we believe in:
Valuing all children, parents/carers, staff and visitors equally.
Ensuring all children have the opportunity to participate fully in our curriculum.
Matching the curriculum and the way it is delivered to meet the needs of the children in our care, realising that not all children learn in the same way.
Getting the right resources at the right time and in the right way to promote every child’s development.
Encouraging the participation of all parents/carers in our setting.
Working together with all children, their families/carers and other professionals.
Provision and resources
Our provision and resources aim to reflect positive images to promote equality of opportunity avoiding stereotypes and anti-discriminatory practice by:
Ensuring that staff are good role models and give their time and attention equally to all children.
Providing role play items, musical instruments, books, music and resources that reflect diversity and the celebration of different cultures.
Displaying pictures, photographs, books and resources that reflect non-stereotypical roles, racial, cultural and religious diversity and disability.
Encouraging children to join in all activities such as role play, dressing up, dolls, ball play and climbing on large apparatus.
Providing opportunities for children to share their experiences and discuss their views with each other and the staff.
Planning for each child’s individual needs.
Providing every child with the opportunity to explore, acknowledge and value similarities and differences between themselves and others.
Encourage children to respect and care for each other through all activities.
Regularly review childcare practice to ensure the policy is effective.
We meet these needs through:
Early learning framework
The Early Years Foundation Stage is our starting point for planning a curriculum that meets the specific needs of individuals and groups of children. Early learning opportunities offered in the nursery encourage children to develop positive attitudes to people who are different from them. It encourages children to empathise with others and to begin to develop the skills of critical thinking.
We do this by:
Making children feel valued and good about themselves
Ensuring that all children have equal access to early learning and play opportunities
Reflecting the widest possible range of communities in the choice of resources
Avoiding stereotypical or derogatory images in the selection of materials
Acknowledging and celebrating a wide range of religions, beliefs and festivals
Creating an environment of mutual respect and empathy
Helping children to understand that discriminatory behaviour and remarks are unacceptable
Ensuring that all early learning opportunities offered are inclusive of children with learning difficulties and/or disabilities and children from disadvantaged backgrounds
Ensuring that children whose first language is not English have full access to early learning opportunities and are supported in their learning
Working in partnership with all families to ensure they understand the policy and challenge any discriminatory comments made
Ensuring the medical, cultural and dietary needs of children are met
Identifying a key person to each child who will continuously observe, assess and plan for children’s learning and development
Helping children to learn about a range of food and cultural approaches to meal times and to respect the differences among them
The nursery aims to ensure that individuals are recruited, selected, trained and promoted on the basis of occupational skill requirements. In this respect, the nursery will ensure that no job applicant or employee will receive less favourable treatment which cannot be justified as being necessary for the safe and effective performance of their work or training as in the Equality Act 2010.
Service Provision
We will strive to promote equal access to services and projects by taking practical steps such as ensuring access for disabled people and producing material in relevant languages and media. Literature can be made available in large print for parents/carers.
