Breastfeeding offers a number of health benefits to mam, baby and family.
Breastmilk is good for babies as it:
· Helps build up healthy tummies (protects against Gastroenteritis)
· Protects against respiratory and ear infections
· Babies are less likely to develop diabetes, eczema and asthma
· Babies are more likely to remain a healthy weight
Mams who breastfeed:
· Less likely to develop diabetes
· Less prone to bone weakness such as osteoporosis
· Reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancer
· Breastfeeding burns approximately 500 calories per day
· For families it can have a huge financial benefit as they do not need to purchase sterilising and feeding equipment or infant formula.
